Three Years

I recently passed the three year mark from the start of my career as a counselor. It is hard to believe that three years have gone by since graduation. It is hard to believe that my license is complete and I am working full time as a counselor. It gave me an opportunity to reflect on these past years and some of the things I have learned. I would not say that I am the same counselor that walked out of RTS with my degree in hand. I have seen a lot of clients with a lot of issues. I have had really good sessions and sessions that I would love to forget. Recently, I learned that love is disruptive. I knew that confrontation was hard and sitting in pain with people a challenge. But, I did not even begin to grasp how disruptive loving a person is. It brought to mind the many stories of Christ detailed in scripture. One of Jesus’ most disruptive approaches to the people around him was his love. He shocked people with his tenderness. I hope in the years to come, I disrupt people with love far more often then I disrupt them with confrontation.
